The new petition is still calling for UF to reopen the villages' units to graduate students and families seeking affordable housing as well as a complete reversal on the university's plan to demolish Maguire and UVS starting in 2023. Almost 900 people signed on calling for the university to allow students to continue moving into apartments in the two villages and demanding "clear, concise and honest documentation as to the future of graduate and family housing at the University of Florida."

It follows an old petition posted about two years ago by the UF Mayors’ Council in Graduate and Family Housing around when the closures were first announced.
